The holidays are our most favorite time of the year. They’re also our busiest. I’m sure it’s the same for every other person out there.
With the holidays demanding a lot of our time and our families asking for more of our attention, we don’t usually have a single free weekend between Halloween and New Years.
It can be challenging to eat safely during the holidays for us. Not everyone in our family believes that we need to eat gluten-free.
Some of our family members think eating gluten-free is all in our heads. They don’t understand that it’s a medical necessity. If my girls and I don’t eat gluten-free we get very sick.
When it comes to our friends, they’re very supportive and understanding.
They go out of their way to make sure they serve safe foods at their dinner parties, they pick up special gluten-free desserts for us so we can enjoy them too, and they support Gluten-Free Palate.
Back to our extended family. At first it was really hard at family gatherings. If we didn’t bring our own food, we didn’t eat. Plain and simple.
It actually got to a point where I said we weren’t going to attend gatherings if others weren’t going to take my girls and I into thought when planning.
Fast forward a couple years. Several members of our extended family have discovered they have food allergies.
We have family allergic or intolerant to gluten, dairy, peanuts, and garlic. With more and more awareness being brought to allergies, our family is slowly staring to understand.
About a year ago I suggested we made a list of meals that we all could eat. Dishes that are free from gluten, dairy, peanuts, and garlic.
Also, something that everyone can enjoy. I even volunteered to plan the meals so everyone could eat safe. Now our family works together to plan meals and bring items that everyone can eat.
My sister-in-law was recently diagnosed celiac. She and I partner up on desserts.
Sometimes she makes them, and sometimes I make them. This holiday season I’m making mini desserts and cookies for our family gatherings.
I love single serving desserts because they’re just enough to hit the spot without over indulging.
These little Chocolate Peppermint Dessert Shots are perfect for families and parties alike. They’re ready in minutes and are the perfect combination of chocolate and peppermint.
Make them a day in advance for easier prep.

Thank you for calling attention to garlic intolerance! My husband suffers terribly and people are just rude about it. I maintain that if you can’t cook without garlic, you are not an imaginative cook!

Hi Linda,
Thank you for stopping by. Most people aren’t aware that there is such a thing as garlic intolerance. I know two people who are intolerant, so I am happy to mention it.
Best,
Chrystal
