Need a quick, sweet, and salty dessert that will please any palate? Try these simple and tasty gluten-free pretzel stacks.
Growing up, my mom made haystacks every year during the holidays. My sister and I loved haystacks and until a few years ago we didn’t know that her secret ingredient was butterscotch chips
I’ve seen several recipes for haystacks that use oriental noodles and chocolate as the main ingredients.
Given that oriental noodles have gluten, and as of today I can’t find any gluten-free ones, we use gluten-free pretzels in our haystacks.
But butterscotch? I would have never guessed.
The butterscotch works really well with the other flavors in the haystacks – providing a smooth finish that’s not overpowered by the chocolate.
I love the extra crunch and the salt that the pecans and pretzels bring to the recipe.
It helps to balance out the chocolate and butterscotch and gives it a nice texture.
The Gluten-Free Pretzel Stacks work really well for gifts, parties, and lunchbox surprises.
Put them in a holiday tin or wrap them up with a pretty bow… if they last that long.
They are still a favorite in our family and I’m glad that I can make them gluten-free so that everyone can enjoy them.
