PINEAPPLE SPINACH SMOOTHIE RECIPE
If you love smoothies, you're going to love this pineapple spinach smoothie. It's filling, perfectly sweet, and secretly healthy.
Fresh, sweet pineapple and spinach are the two main ingredients in this smoothie.
I've included some additional add-ins for you below, if you want to thicken this pineapple smoothie, or simply add additional healthy ingredients.
WHAT FRUITS MIX WELL WITH SPINACH IN SMOOTHIES?
There are a variety of fruits that mix well with spinach in smoothies. Strawberries, Bananas, Blackberries, Mango, and Pineapple are a few that we love.
We've also made spinach smoothies with apple and banana.
DO I USE FRESH OR FROZEN PINEAPPLE?
You can use fresh or frozen pineapple to make this pineapple spinach smoothie. We recommend using frozen pineapple as it gives this smoothie a creamier texture.
We recommend using fresh spinach. Frozen spinach doesn't work well in smoothies.
INGREDIENTS IN A PINEAPPLE SPINACH SMOOTHIE
There are only four ingredients in this pineapple spinach smoothie: milk or dairy-free milk, pineapple, spinach and banana.
You don't need to add the banana but we think it helps with texture.
HOW TO TELL IF PINEAPPLE IS RIPE?
Pineapple that is ripe will have a firm outer shell that gives a little when squeezed. It will also smell sweet.
If the pineapple is squishy or has flies, it's most likely gone bad.
You can slice fresh pineapple and freeze it for this recipe, or use pre-frozen pineapple.
SMOOTHIE ADD-INS:
-1 scoop of plain or vanilla protein powder
- ½ cup berries
- 1 tablespoon flaxseed meal
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1 tablespoon hemp hearts
Feel free to add in your favorite smoothie add-in ingredients.
Tips for making smoothies:
Always put the liquid into the blender first. This will help keep the blender from jamming up.
Omit the ice if you are using frozen ingredients, like frozen pineapple. Then add ice until you get your desired consistency.
If your smoothie calls for two or more types of fruit, don’t use all frozen fruit otherwise the liquid will freeze the fruit and the blender will jam up. For example, don't use frozen pineapple and frozen banana, unless you add additional milk.
If you like a thinner smoothie, add more water, milk, or dairy-free milk.
If you like a thicker smoothie, add more fresh or frozen fruit or yogurt. You can also add ½ cup ice.
For a sweeter smoothie, add additional sweet fruits or add a tablespoon of honey, agave, or maple syrup. The fruits and orange juice should be sweet enough.
