Why Gluten Free Sandwiches Deserve The Spotlight
I probably sound like a broken record on this one if you've been reading my articles, but bread was a sore point for me when we needed to change our lifestyle to being gluten-free. I am talking quite a few years ago, when store-bought options were limited, tasteless, and put you off even thinking a "regular" sandwich was even possible in this new celiac disease world.
It did feel very isolating, but in today's world, there as so many more options, so you have a choice. And let's be honest, when something is restrictive, that's what you want. Choice!

Build Your Own With These Homemade Gluten-Free Sandwich Essentials
Always check that the ingredients are certified gluten-free. To make one requires the following:
- Gluten-free bread - These are our top 6 gluten-free sandwich breads. And, yes, it does include the ever-popular and growing (excuse the pun) sourdough bread. If you need a store-bought option, Canyon Bakehouse is a great option.
- Protein - gluten-free fried chicken, crispy bacon, deli ham, or roasted beef. Vegetarian? Then add some egg salad, grilled tofu, or roasted red pepper with hummus.
- Cheese - Yes, cheese is an important one here. Add richness with Swiss cheese, provolone, or aged cheddar. You can toast your sandwich so it's filled with gooey cheese.
- Condiments and spreads - The list is practically endless, but mayonnaise, pesto, and guacamole are my top picks.
- Add veggie fillers - Lettuce, tomato, and pickles are a must.
What About Take-Out Options?
Fast food restaurants are an option, but not all are dedicated gluten-free options. Here is the lowdown on some sandwich ideas to get your hands on. I get excited about this one as Jersey Mike's has gluten-free sandwiches! They offer Udi's sandwich rolls, which are really good. As always, exercise caution when eating out. If a server looks confused ask for the manager, or rather, try a different outlet.
Chick-fil- A is another option that works well for us. We like to have the grilled chicken sandwich and substitute the regular bun for a gluten-free bun or no bun. Another option is the grilled chicken club sandwich with a gluten-free bun.

Taste Without Compromise
As you can see from the above, you definitely have a choice when it comes to gluten free sandwiches. Make your own homemade gluten free bread or store-bought, pick your fillings, and enjoy your tasty sandwich of your choice.
Now, for the most important question, will you have it toasted, warm, or chilled?
