Why You'll Love this Maple Granola
Simple Ingredients - This maple granola recipe only needs six ingredients that are found in most grocery stores. Making homemade maple granola is less expensive than buying it at the stores.
Sweet Maple Flavor - We're using pure maple syrup in this recipe which lends a sweet maple flavor. Cinnamon and maple flavors go hand in hand.
Easy to Make - With one bowl and one sheet pan, and only six ingredients, this maple granola is easy to make. You can double or triple the batch, batch cooking more maple granola.
Maple Granola Ingredients
Gluten-Free Oats - Remember to check labels to make sure your oats are gluten-free. We're using old-fashioned gluten-free oats in this maple granola recipe. We don't recommend quick oats or steel-cut oats in this recipe.
Oil - We like to use melted and cooled coconut oil, but you can use your oil of choice. You can also use melted butter.
Maple Syrup - We recommended using pure maple syrup (like this one) to make this maple granola. Maple-flavored syrup doesn't have the same flavor and can sometimes burn quicker when baking in the oven.
Cinnamon - Ground cinnamon adds to the flavor and works with the maple and oatmeal.
Pecans - You can use pecan halves or pieces. You can also switch out the pecans for another nut.
Salt - Salt adds flavor and enhances the other flavors in this maple granola recipe.
Feel free to add other ingredients like flax seeds, chia seeds, or other nuts before baking. You can also add dried fruit or chocolate chips after the granola has baked and cooled.

How to Make Maple Granola
Making maple granola is super simple:
- Preheat your oven to 350F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper; set aside.
- In a medium mixing bowl, mix together the oats, 3 tablespoons oil, maple syrup, and cinnamon until well combined.
- Spread the mixture out over ¾ of the sheet pan.
- Add the pecan pieces, remaining 1 tablespoon oil, and salt to the same bowl and toss to coat.
- Add the pecans to the remaining ¼ of the sheet pan and bake for 15 minutes.
- Stir the pecans and oats together and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the granola is golden brown.
- Remove the granola from the oven and allow it to cool to room temperature.
Break the granola into your desired size and store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 7 days.
Is Granola Gluten Free?
Yes and no, if you buy your granola from the store. Just like any processed and packaged food it may be made with products that contain gluten and it may also be processed in a facility that processes wheat.
Not all oats used in gluten-free granola are actually gluten-free. While oats are naturally gluten-free they can become contaminated any time between planting and processing. It's best to use certified gluten-free oats or purity protocol oats.
Gluten-free oats can be kind of finicky, and I honestly sometimes have a hard time trusting packaged gluten-free granola. Despite their convenience, I feel a lot better about the integrity of my granola if I've cooked it myself using certified gluten-free oats.
Always check labels before you purchase gluten-free granola.
How to Store Granola
Store your homemade maple granola in an air-tight container in a cool, dry place like a cupboard. It should last for at least 7 days. You can also freeze granola in zipper bags or freezer containers for up to three months.
Nut-Free Maple Granola
We love pecans in this maple granola but if you can't have nuts, or pecans, you can use another nut instead. You can also use seeds in place of the pecans. We love pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds in granola and they both are amazing with maple and cinnamon.
