Looking for an inexpensive and fun kids birthday party idea? How about a Kids Italian Chef Gluten-Free Pizza Party using Freschetta® Gluten Free Pepperoni and Cheese Pizza? With a few simple games and some toppings, you can pull together a fun kids party in no time.
Special thanks to Freschetta® for partnering with me for Celiac Awareness month and sponsoring this post. Opinions are my own.
My daughter asked for a themed party this year for her birthday. She wanted to invite ten of her closest friends, play games, and eat cupcakes. We live a gluten-free lifestyle and there aren’t any dedicated gluten-free restaurants or facilities that host kid parties in our area. I didn’t want her to feel like she couldn’t have a fun birthday party because she ate gluten-free so we decided to host a Kids Italian Chef Gluten-Free Pizza Party where everyone would enjoy the same gluten-free pizza and cupcakes. Luckily, our local store carries Freschetta® Gluten Free Pizzas. We were able to plan her special day, buy the pizzas the morning of the party, and throw her a fun gluten-free birthday party.
For the Kids Italian Chef Gluten-Free Pizza Party theme, we decorated the table with red plaid fabric that I picked up from the fabric store. You can also order a “picnic table cloth” online with the same pattern. We then cut out dark red felt rectangles for the place settings, lined the table with white plates, and topped each plate with a chefs hat, rolling pin, spoon, and rubber spatula (I ordered all this from Amazon and link to similar items through my affiliate links). We purchased paper cupcake liners (also from Amazon, affiliate) that matched our fabric, and found the red cake holders at a local craft store.
We agreed to make big gluten-free pizzas and have the kids put their own toppings on after, rather than making a bunch of individual pizzas. We opted for Freschetta Gluten Free Pepperoni and Cheese Pizza. They bake up in less than 20 minutes, have a wonderful crunchy crust, and are perfect for pizza parties. We love the Freschetta Gluten Free Thin & Crispy Signature Pepperoni Pizza. The sauce isn’t too sweet, like you find on a lot of frozen pizzas, and the pepperoni doesn’t leave a greasy mess on your plate.
My daughter and her friends talked about how good the pizza tasted. Some of the parents that stayed to help couldn’t believe the pizza was gluten-free. After the party, she asked me if she could take the leftover pizza in her lunch the next day.
We set out bowls of toppings for the kids to decorate their pizzas chef-style. You can set out your favorite toppings. Here are a few of ours:
- Additional pepperoni (for those who like extra)
- Sliced mushrooms
- Green onion
We served the pizza with chopped fruit, and finished the party with Gluten-Free Vanilla Bean Cupcakes. The kids had a crazy-fun time decorating their pizza slices – and most importantly, they enjoyed every bite.
Just a note: I tried to find little Italy flags for the cupcake toppers, but they were out of stock and the only ones available weren’t going to arrive on time. I thought the little flags would be a fun touch to the theme.
We created two games for the guests to play. These games are fun for kids ages 4-10 (I’m basing this off of the ages of her guests and cousins who came to the party).
Game #1: Pizza Topping Name Game
Guests name as many pizza toppings as they can that start with each letter of the alphabet. This is a timed gamed – you can choose how long you’d like to let them work on it. Because it takes time to write each topping down, we gave our guests 2 minutes. Click on the picture below to download the template.
Game #2: Pizza Topping Toss
This may not look like much, but the kids had so much fun tossing felt pepperoni and mushrooms onto the pizza. You don’t need a template to make this fun game. Simply cut out a 3 X 3 circle of red felt (for the sauce), and a slightly smaller circle of white felt (for the cheese). Glue the two pieces together. Next, cut out felt toppings – you can pick any toppings you want. Have the kids stand 4-6 feet back from the pizza and toss the toppings onto the pizza. The kid with the most toppings on the pizza wins!
Creating our own games, decorating with red and white fabrics and place settings, and baking Freschetta Gluten Free Thin & Crispy Signature Pepperoni Pizza at home really saved us time and money. The kids had a great time, and they were able to take their fun new “chef” tools home with them.
