Gluten Free Chai Donuts
Chai Tea Lattes have been my go-t0 drink for years. I drink them year round, even when it's hot outside. I love all the spices, honey, and black tea mixed together. I usually order mine with dairy-free vanilla milk and no foam.
It's super comforting and quite delicious, so of course I'd be over the moon about Gluten-Free Chai Donuts. Any chai tea lover would be.
You know we love donuts in our house and I try to develop a couple of donut recipes a year.
Last year during this time I made Gluten-Free Gingerbread Donuts. They were super scrumptious and we've made them several time since. Developing a recipe for chai donuts is long over due and I'm glad I decided to make them this year.
Gluten Free Spice Donuts
Truth be told, I started prepping my holiday recipes in July. Some people think it's crazy to start that early but I need the extra time to ramp up holiday recipes.
We try to spend time with family, and do fun activities, and sometimes travel during the holiday breaks. I can't even imagine trying to make a recipe a week and get everything else done that I need to get done.
That's also why I love easy recipes. We're just as busy as any other average household during the holidays and I can't afford to spend hours in the kitchen every day prepping and cooking up meals when there's a holiday every other weekend - it seem. 😉
Plus my family loves dessert. They get plenty with all the recipe testing I do. Combined all the holiday stuff, top it with regular life, and there just aren't enough hours in the day to do everything.
Creating recipes for the holidays takes time. It's not as easy as throwing together a couple of things and snapping a photo.
Bloggers have to think through recipe ideas, test, and re-test before they share it with their readers. That's why I, and many others, start prepping for the holidays early. So we have plenty of time to perfect the recipe so it's the best that it can be before it goes up on our blogs.
You're going to love these Gluten-Free Chai Donuts. My family loved every bite when I was perfecting the recipe.
They are firm, like a standard baked cake donut, but still tender. The full flavors of vanilla and chai are bursting throughout the donut, and the glaze adds the right amount of sweetness.

Perfect wintery doughnuts! I just baked up a new batch last weekend!
chrystal
We sort of have a thing for donuts in our house 😉
Cricket Plunkett
I love donuts! Perhaps I'll make these for Christmas morning!
chrystal
Such a great idea! I might make them Christmas morning as well 🙂
Lindsey Willson
The glaze looks delicious. This is a great recipe, I can't wait to make it for my family.
chrystal
Thank you Lindsey. My family love them and I'm sure yours will too 🙂
Elizabeth DiBurro
These donuts look and sounds delicious. Do you think the recipe would still work if I tried it egg free?
chrystal
I'm not sure. Most of my donuts work well with egg replacer and chia egg. Let me know if it turns out!
Kelly @ TastingPage
I think it would be very dangerous for me to have these in my house because they look so good. I'd have to eat one and freeze the rest so I don't go through a dozen in one sitting!
chrystal
We froze a few batches and pulled them out and reheated in the microwave 🙂
Alisa Fleming
You are just nailing the baked goods lately Chrystal! These look positively stunning and I love chai anything.
chrystal
Awe. Thank you Alisa!
Kortney // Allergy Girl Eats
These sound so easy to make! I have always wanted to try and make donuts. Do you think it would be ok to use normal milk in this recipe?
chrystal
Hi Kortney, Yes regular milk will work 🙂
Sarah- A Whisk and Two Wands
These look amazing and we love our donuts, especially healthier versions than the donut shops (but we love those too). I made donuts yesterday with the girls out of school. I'll have to give these a try next week as I love chai!
chrystal
Thanks for stopping by Sarah. I hope you and your girls love them 🙂
Sharon @What The Fork
This is a great recipe that is very easy to follow! The photos are great too!
chrystal
Thank you Sharon!
Julia
Warm chai donuts sound so appealing, especially with the cold weather we're having!
chrystal
They are amazing!
Amanda
You always make the best looking donuts. I seriously need to come visit for a donut making class!
chrystal
Ooh, a donut making class would be fun and tasty 🙂 Thank you for the compliment.
Julie
These are soooo good! They came out with a very strong cardamom flavor (which I loved), so if you're not as into that or want the other flavors more balanced, maybe cut back on the cardamom a bit. Otherwise fantastic!
Angela
I just made these and they are so tasty! My husband even liked them!! I did use butter:) Thanks so much!!
chrystal
Hi Angela,
I’m so glad you like them. Thank you for stopping back by, leaving me a review, and letting me know.
Best,
Chrystal
Michelle
Have you ever tried to fry to donut after baking to get that crispy outside, before glazing?
I haven’t been able to get the “right crust” for baked gluten free donuts. I’m excited to try this recipe! Our local pastry shop makes GF chai donuts, that I’m looking to replicate.
chrystal
I haven't personally fried them, but a few readers have.
Best,
Chrystal
